Sleeve notes: This piece of music was inspired by the work of composer James Horner, and his score for Braveheart. I have tried to use similar instrumentation to his, such as the use of alto flute to achieve a deeper and softer tone.
Sleeve notes: This piece was inspired by American EDM trio Cheat Codes. It relies heavily on the marimba patterns and builds up before the ‘laid back’ chorus, with a strong focus on the string synth.
Sleeve notes: This piece was created in just over an hour, due to its simplicity. It follows an old hip hop style drum pattern with four chords that are repeated.
This piece was inspired by Jonas Blue and Major Laser. The quietest point is the chorus after a louder verse; it then builds to the loudest part of the song. Many songs do this, but I first learnt this from Smells like Teen Spirit by Nirvana.
Sleeve notes: The main riff was created purely by experimenting with bass sounds. I used a low tom instead of a kick drum as well as a harp, which is uncommon.
This is based on a three-chord piano sequence, with the marimba line originally written for voice. The piano segment in the bridge was inspired by Something Just Like This by The Chainsmokers and Coldplay.
Sleeve notes: Very much inspired by Ed Sheeran and his use of layering, this piece was originally written for guitar parts. Later I converted to instruments in order to vary the sound.
I tried to keep this piece as simple as possible using four simple chords. The steel drum melody was inspired by Bunny Mack (a 1980s singer). The piece builds at the end after the bridge.
